This is not just a boys' club - Ellen Burstyn, Margot Kidder and Karen Black are among the perceptive interviewees, along with Paul Schrader, Richard Dreyfuss and many more. Its a series of documentaries exploring the idea about how people have been enslaved by the same machines they created. When the interview is happening, the interviewee is in a close up head shot with a black background. This film might be a model for my Independent Study as it is told in a documentary fashion with clips and interviews intertwined in the film. "What the fuck's an hommage?" was his reply. Easy Riders, Raging Bulls (Bowser, 2002, USA) is a documentary about Hollywood directors in the 1970s. A documentary that examines the filmmaking industry of the 1960s and 70s. The idea of community, a persistent though always receding theme in the film, is one of them. The sheer incomprehension from both sides of the battle are neatly summed up as Arthur Penn and Warren Beatty nervously attempt to explain the new wave- influenced Bonnie and Clyde to dinosaur studio boss Jack Warner as an hommage to the Warners' gangster films of the 40s. Easy Rider is a film that bids farewell to a number of ideas. There are lots of pithy quotes, from Dennis Hopper's "I had final cut and cut my own throat", relating to his drug-fuelled The Last Movie, to John Milius's "Hollywood was a walled city. There's enough detail in Biskind's book for a whole series, but this lengthy documentary, co-financed by the BBC and narrated by William H Macy, covers most bases in the battle between the artists/madmen and the suits.
